The brief

A bespoke planner, not another brochure site

The official Barbados tourism team needed a discovery experience that went beyond a brochure site. Visitors arrive curious but undecided — they don’t know which coast suits them, which beaches are family-friendly, which restaurants match their budget, or which experiences fit their travel style.

Existing tourism sites are static directories. The brief was to build a bespoke planner that asks a few tap-only questions and returns a real, day-by-day Barbados escape — backed by a live catalog of vetted experiences, hotels, restaurants and beaches, fully bilingual, and operable by a small content team.

  • Server-side pre-filter narrows 565+ catalog items down to a ~80-item shortlist by coast and budget before the LLM sees it, keeping latency and cost predictable.
  • Tool-calling LLM via the Lovable AI Gateway returns a structured itinerary: profile summary, “why it fits”, and 6–8 chosen activities with bespoke concierge blurbs.
  • Deterministic day-plan builder auto-slots activities into morning, afternoon and evening across the traveller’s trip length, with restaurants rotating into evenings.
  • Coast-aware bundling: hotels, restaurants and beaches surfaced alongside the itinerary are matched to the dominant coast and respected against the traveller’s budget band.
  • Family-aware re-ranking: family-friendly beaches float to the top automatically when the traveller signals they’re travelling with kids.
